Georgia Sea Turtle Center

One of nature’s most wondrous and fascinating events takes place on Jekyll Island each year. In the summertime, female Loggerhead turtles crawl from the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, journey to their ancient nesting areas in the dunes and lay their eggs in small burrows in the sand. This annual rite of summer led to the creation of the Georgia Sea Turtle Center in an effort to protect the endangered Loggerheads and preserve their delicate migration that plays out on the Island’s shores each year.
